Jamiel Shaw is a proud father and advocate for gun violence prevention. In 2008, he was gunned down by an illegal alien who was in the country illegally.
I wanted to write a letter to my son to show him how much I loved him. I felt like such a failure and I felt like that this was my fault because of my status. I had to relive every second of his life when I lost him and that’s so painful and so painful.
The system of allowing people in this country to immigrate illegally is disgusting. Because not only are they criminals, but they’re a threat to our communities. It’s disheartening to me. We have these gangs. The reason they’re doing it is because of a lot of the things that go on in these communities. We should have a community based initiative that deals with these gangs. It’s a game. They’re waiting to see if they get deported. But at the same time, there’s a reason they’re doing it. They’re getting their hands on guns.
I’m still advocating for my son’s case.
