How the NRCC responded to liberals charging it whitewashed Obamacare efforts

There have been a lot of concerns recently about the National Republican Congressional Committee’s whitewashing of its Obamacare efforts in a series of media appearances.

The Washington Post and Fox News host Sean Hannity have been among the most vocal in denouncing the party’s whitewashing, quoting from inflammatory messages, reportedly from Mo Brooks and other conservatives, calling for a not-so-subtle counterattack against Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats if and when the GOP repealed the health law.

Here are some excerpts:

Mo Brooks at Fox News this week: “It’s critical that we get Obamacare taken away this fall so we can fight back and you should be alarmed about Pelosi and her new plans.”

Sean Hannity on Wednesday: “Yeah we gotta double down on it because if we don’t, they will win. The only thing people are gonna remember is they gave you what you wanted and the democrats won. And that’s what we should be focused on. And if they want to talk about anything else, that’s their prerogative. … we have put together a political plan. We are in talks with some of the best grassroots organizations to do that. We need to get health care taken away. The only way we can get health care taken away is if we tie it to the tax overhaul. Those are two separate issues so we need to keep those separate. If we give her one thing and the other one comes out, that’s what people will remember.”

Mike Pence and Tom Price meeting in Kentucky Friday: “It’s imperative that we show how Democrats can be in control of how we stop runaway prices, cost-shifting, and other problems from not being addressed as Obamacare unravels. We can do that by establishing a National Health Insurance Exchange,” Price said in a text message to Pence the day before that event, according to the Washington Post. “I look forward to meeting with you tomorrow in Louisville to discuss solutions for high deductible plans,” Pence texted back that evening.

It’s not clear if any of this had any effect on the congressional messaging. A Fox News press release said of the Atlanta interview: “CBO Ratings, Analysis are American Interest” — but the agency’s most recent report actually places Democrats as the political culprits in major parts of Obamacare.
