A woman has died after a fire in her flat in north London.

The London Fire Brigade said a search of the flat in Tottenham, north London, was ongoing as fire crews continued to damp down flames on Saturday.

London Ambulance Service said six people had been taken to nearby hospitals after smoke inhalation. They were initially treated for smoke inhalation but were later taken to Northwick Park Hospital and taken to Kings College Hospital.

The fire began in the kitchen of the ground floor flat just before 9 a.m. on Saturday, the brigade said. An estimated 130 firefighters and 60 fire engines tackled the blaze.

No one had been arrested in connection with the incident as of Saturday afternoon, according to the police.

Firefighters were able to “connect the fire” to the oven, the brigade said, but the cause of the fire was not known as of 10 a.m.

The Brigade has “been at the scene for almost 24 hours and despite efforts to bring the fire under control a woman has now died,” its Twitter account said.

Wes Street’s landlord says there’s no record of anyone having checked the flat before the owner moved in.

“My gut instinct tells me the boiler has been changed or the filters changed so nobody checked the flats. This is not an investigation that should take this long,” Street told the BBC.

Street said he was angry about the fire, and the fact it was claimed that he had given false information about it.

“We have had a landlord who keeps popping up to media and shouting. I haven’t got nowhere to go,” he told the BBC.

Street said he was working on re-looking the flat and finding a new landlord, adding: “I’ve got nowhere to go. It’s become a bit of a circus now,” Street told BBC radio.
